ALI KHAN
features vocalists from Pakistan, from a 500-year family lineage
of Indian classical music. Like their world-famous father Ustad Salamat Ali
Khan, the new generation renders devotional Sufi songs with entrancing touches of Qawalli and Bhangra styles. Their CD “Taswir” is on the City of
Tribes label.
ANCIENT FUTURE
is the pioneering world fusion ensemble whose first CD,
“Natural Thythms” is widely considered the first successful blending of
Eastern and Western music. With an extraordinary array of musical instruments
conveying primal roots, trance rhythms, and spirituality, this evolving group

STEPHEN
KENT, multi-instrumentalist, composer and master of the exultant
didjeridu, has performed all over the world, in solo concerts and with group
projects Lights in a Fat City and Trance Mission. He has released a dozen CDs,
and he hosts a weekly World Music program on KPFA Radio.
VIVIANA
GUZMAN, virtuoso flutist, is a native of Chile and former student of Jean-Pierre Rampal and James Galway. She has done solo performances with
major orchestras in several countries, and appeared as a recitalist throughout Europe as well as North and South America. Her CDs to date:
Telemann Flute Fantasies and Planet Flute.
EDA MAXYM,
a founding member and lead vocalist of Beasts of Paradise, has regularly performed and recorded with Trance Mission, and in live concerts
with Stephen Kent.
TECHUNG,
a Tibetan freedom singer, is artistic director and a founder of Chaksam-pa Dance and Opera Company, a traditional Tibetan performance group
devoted to preserving, promoting and revitalizing Tibetan music. Chaksam-pa
has released 3 CDs. Techung performs with Kit Walker on keyboards and Geoffrey Gordon on percussion.
Jeff Greenwald, host of this event, has traveled extensively through five
continents, working as a writer, artist and photographer. His books include
Shopping for Buddhas and Size of the World. He frequently contributes
to Discover, the New York Times, New Scientist, and
Salon.com online.
